CIFO Art Wall

Detach (Progress), 2009.

Primary Flight and CIFO have partnered to create a block-sized mural at the CIFO Art Space. Over the years, the CIFO Art Space has transformed the Downtown Miami skyline with its mosaic façade and this mural will only add to the building’s unique presence.  The CIFO Art Wall will be designed by Johnny Robles,a Miami based painter and sculptor, and is set to be completed by September, in time for Viewpoint: 2011 CIFO Grants & Commissions Program Exhibition. The collaboration also supports Fund-A-Project, CIFO’s mico-funding initiative.

Johnny Robles works with varying media and scales, from intimate drawings to monumental street murals. He received his BFA in 2006 from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). He also studied in the Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy, which plays an apparent classical influence in his work. His work is filled with a subtle balance of opposing elements: chaos/nostalgia light/shadow. Robles’ themes derive inspiration from shapes made or changed by nature, nostalgic visions of childhood and the spiritual world.

Take this opportunity to become part of the movement. Donate $1 or donate $50, every little bit counts.

collection highlight

Shirin Neshat is a contemporary visual artist living in New York. She is known primarily for her work in film, video and photography. Neshat’s Rapture is both literally and figuratively a separation of genders. Neshat’s film installation consists of two large, opposing projections that depict men and women separated from each other; while polarized both visually and spatially, both are kept locked in a dynamic though subtle interaction that powerfully underscores gender-based inequalities.Rapture is a poetic and moving 16mm-film installation (presented in laser disc format) addressing traditional gender roles in patriarchal, fundamentalist society, one that Iranian-born Neshat, who has lived in the United States since 1974, has experienced.
