As we get ready for our own art fairs, we do have to look at them with some realism. Maybe some real and affordable art will save the day for the gallerists. It’s not easy looking at something and then seeing the price tag at Art Basel Miami Beach, but the fair does charge for its booth space.

Reports from contemporary-art fairs in Berlin and Shanghai so far this month have been mixed, with few dealers saying they had major successes. While auction houses have managed to find buyers for lower-priced material, the landmark pieces — and high prices — that had become commonplace in recent years have been largely absent from recent auctions as sellers wait out a difficult economic market.”
