NewsIt has been a long while since we last sent out our newsletter due to problems out of our control. And, we have made some changes in philosophical direction that are impacting what goes on here. Long time residents know that Miami Art Exchange began as an organization of unaffiliated artists. Once that organization ceased to function the ownership of Miami Art Exchange, the web site, moved to different hands but, has continued life into the future. Now, after some years we have started a new organization and have monthly Meetups on various topics to artists that designed to help the artist be successful in all aspects of life and career. This new organization is called South Florida Artist Entrepreneurs. The OrganizationThe South Florida Artist Entrepreneurs Meetup Group is a new network of local artist entrepreneurs, and alumni of the "Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute" (AEI), offered during summer 2007 by Broward Cultural Division. This Meetup Group gathers monthly to share tips and problem solving techniques, get advice on career and, discuss mentoring and business models for artists. What it takes to be a professional artist is more than knowing your craft, you have to know how to run a business. Your materials cost money and, you need to hire assistants, you need a contract, you need to copyright your work and, you need to make a living!
