ArtCenter/South Florida goes all out for Art Basel Miami Beach
MIAMI BEACH, FL — ArtCenter/South Florida goes all out for Art Basel Miami Beach this year. In ArtCenter’s new interdisciplinary project space, Project 924, Migrating Inwards unites the work of two ArtCenter alumni, Wendy Wischer and Antonia Wright, and two resident artists, Luis Garcia-Nerey and David Zalben. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 with an opening reception from 7pm to 12am sponsored by Pardos Peruvian Cuisine that will feature performers from New World Symphony as part of their monthly impromptu: series at the ArtCenter. At 9pm, Armando Rodriguez performs Occupied Spaces at the Audiotheque located at Studio #201. Also after 9pm, Project 924 will feature beats by DJ Mauricio Parra from MTV Latinoamerica and Tr3s as part of the AfterHours ArtLounge.
Additionally, The Gift of the Present Moment, with works by instructor and alumnus Lazaro Amaral and Chloe Firetto-Toomey, uses text and visual representations to convey a poem as conceptual art in the 924 Vitrine. The exhibition will also features student work by Aimee Hedman and Angelina Morla in ArtCenter’s Studio #100. Sales from The Gift of the Present Moment will benefit ArtCenter’s Print Lab. And at the Print Lab, Stenciling DIY Event with Ed Roth on Thursday, December 6, 12-2pm and Saturday, December 8, 4-6pm.
Every morning during Art Basel Miami Beach, December 6-9, 2012 from 9am to 12pm, ArtCenter will host Curated Studio Visits of select resident artists. The studio visits will begin at Project 924. Reservations are required and space is limited. And every evening, December 5-8, 2012 from 9pm to 12am, ArtCenter will host the AfterHours ArtLounge, sponsored by Cardenal Mendoza, Fifty Pounds Gin, Marques de Riscal and Perrier, featuring beats by DJ Mauricio Parra from MTV Latinoamerica and Tr3s.
Lastly, ArtCenter/South Florida has partnered up with JUSTMAD MIA Emerging Art Fair to present the section, JUST PRODUCED. Many of the works in JUST PRODUCED explore artists’ ideas and the processes involved in making these artworks. Some of the works will be completed at the fair and some are studies for larger scale installations. The completed works in JUST PRODUCED have been created during the artists’ residencies at the ArtCenter/South Florida. Some artists are culminating their residencies and their recent accomplishments will be on view. Others have developed new techniques and are working in new mediums as a result of their current residencies. JUSTMAD MIA is open to the public Thursday, December 6, 2-8pm; Friday and Saturday, December 7-8, 12-8pm and Sunday, December 9, 12-6pm.
