I don’t currently have a radio and had no way to hear this broadcast. However, I recently had a conversation with my niece who mentioned both her mother and father (my brother) praising my fashion designs from many years ago, before her birth. I’m honored, yet disappointed what I was attempting to do conceptually: natural fabrics (and some blends), hand woven, hand crafted prints, in loose, comfortable clothing for both men and women.
I had the weavers in Guatemala weave according to my color specifications. When people see the cloth they think it’s African.

“High-end fashion designers have been getting rave reviews for the African prints, textiles and shapes that they sent down the runways. Host Michel Martin explores how it was a good year for African prints and where the trend is going in 2012. She talks with online boutique owner Dolapo Shobanjo and style correspondent Robin Givhan.”
