I should be admonished for never having seen this movie until a few nights ago. I know some of the people involved and have great respect for them, and what I have learned from them.
Although eventually resolved, the results of the discussed court actions could have ended up being very different. Most artists in the U.S. were probably unaware of what had happened and the events taking place at the time this movie was being made. This movie is a must see if you are involved with art and culture in the United States. Period.
Strange Culture
2006 NR 74 minutes
On the eve of his new exhibit, artist and professor Steve Kurtz was shocked by the news that his wife had died of heart failure. The medics on the scene became suspicious of Kurtz’s artistic media, which includes genetically modified foods, and the FBI accused him of bioterrorism. This disquieting true story is brought to life by actors Tilda Swinton, Josh Kornbluth and Peter Coyote in Lynn Herschman Leeson’s chilling dramatic documentary.
