Miami Art Museum and MAM Contemporaries hosted 10×10 MAM, bringing together variety of creative people to speak briefly about what they do. It was also an opportunity for Miami’s young professionals from Miami’s non-profit & cultural organizations & alumni associations for an engaging evening of networking and conversation. The speakers included among the 10 were: Nektar de Stagni, Kathryn Mikesell, Jason Hedges, and Scott Cunningham.
It was also an opportunity to see (in the upper galleries) works from the permanent collection. Even though we have seen selected works, this is the first time in memory where a curated exhibition has been on display. It gives us a much better idea of the collection, which is coming together slowly. Being a new collecting institution has inhibited its efforts at some extent.
The auditorium was transformed into a Middle Eastern space with lots of pillows and low seating. It’s interesting how little this type of seating is used in the US. It does lend itself to more relaxed attitudes and more conversation starts.
(We’ve been using b&w photography quite a bit the past few weeks and thought this evening would be our first online event images in b&w.)
