Happening in February, 2008
Our NEW Miami-DadeSouth Florida Artist Entrepreneurs Meetup will kickoff in February at Carol Jazzar Contemporary Art Space. Come meet the artists who are serious about their work, career, and their futures. Are you making and saving money? Do you have a 5 year plan with goals? Is your intellectual property protected? Do you have health insurance? Do you have an attorney at your ready? Find out the answers to these and other questions.
Our speaker for the month will be John Coppola, lecturer from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has conducted workshops on the topic for National Artists Equity. By way of background, he is an artist, as well as the former director of the Smithsonian's Office of Exhibits and, a gallery manager in Washington, DC before relocating to Miami.

I was up in NYC the last weekend of January talking with our new group sponsor, OPEN American Express for small business and, thirty other Meetup Group organizers for a special two-day gathering. We spent those two days working hard on developing ways to make better Meetup events and find new ways to serve our members.
OPEN has provided some information to share with you at our next events. Our regular monthly Meetup in Broward will be Sat., 23, 2008 at 12 NOON. [full details]
The Growing OrganizationTheSouth Florida Artist Entrepreneurs Meetup Group the network of local artist entrepreneurs, and alumni of the "Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute" (AEI) gathers monthly to share tips and problem solving techniques, get advice on career and, discuss mentoring and business models for artists.
What it takes to be a professional artist is more than knowing your craft, you have to know how to run a business. Your materials cost money and, you need to hire assistants, you need a contract, you need to copyright your work and, you need to make a living!
